Collaboration between Mapper and OEM

TomTom equips Smart models

1 min
In the future, the infotainment system of the Smart models #1, #3, and #5 will include, among other things, map and traffic services from TomTom.

Traffic jams, local accident hotspots and potential dangers: By integrating TomTom's services, Smart aims to provide its customers with additional navigation functions and comprehensive real-time information in the future.

TomTom equips the Smart #1, Smart #3, and Smart #5 models with maps and navigation functions - including real-time information. Drivers are to receive current notices of traffic jams, local accident hotspots, and potential hazards. In addition to this, TomTom's EV routing is to support smart route planning – even on longer journeys – including charging planning along the route. The offering is complemented by TomTom's map for driver assistance systems, which provides information on speed limits in accordance with European ISA standards and EuroNCAP requirements.

"By integrating real-time traffic data, the availability of charging stations, and individual driving behaviour, we ensure that our drivers can always make use of optimal charging stops and seamless route adjustments - making electric driving even more comfortable and enjoyable," comments Yang Jun, Global CTO of Smart.

Intention to advance electromobility

The cooperation between the OEM and the mapper is also intended to advance electromobility. In 2024, 12,463 new Smart vehicles were registered in Germany, corresponding to a market share of 3.3 percent in the battery electric vehicle segment.

The current model range includes:

  • Smart #1: Compact crossover with a 66 kWh battery and up to 440 km range (WLTP).
  • Smart #3: SUV coupe based on the #1.
  • Smart #5: Mid-size SUV with up to a 100 kWh battery and 800-volt technology; market launch in Germany is planned for 2025.
