Magnus Östberg will leave Mercedes-Benz after five years as Chief Software Officer. The Swedish executive built the OEM’s software organisation, led MB.OS and helped bring the CLA as Mercedes-Benz’s first software-defined vehicle into series production.
Magnus Östberg will leave Mercedes-Benz after almost five years as Chief Software Officer. The carmaker confirmed the move, saying Östberg had decided for personal reasons to begin a new phase of his professional career after building the software organisation and successfully transferring it into series production.
Östberg helped bring the CLA, Mercedes-Benz’s first software-defined vehicle, onto the road and carried overall responsibility for MB.OS, the company’s software platform. It is not yet known where he will go next or who will succeed him as software chief.
What did Östberg build at Mercedes-Benz?
Östberg joined Mercedes-Benz from Aptiv in September 2021. As Chief Software Officer, he took overall responsibility for MB.OS and, together with his global team, built one of the automotive industry’s most advanced software platforms.
His career began at software and consulting company Mecel. He later held several management positions at Delphi in Germany and the United States. His departure comes shortly after Mercedes-Benz’s CIO Katrin Lehmann announced her own exit, adding another personnel change to the company’s broader technology organisation.
