Skoda starts production of its Peaq electric SUV
The fully electric Skoda Peaq is now in series production. Its top version uses a 91 kWh traction battery manufactured in Mladá Boleslav, around 50 km north-east of Prague.

Skoda has started series production of the Peaq in Mladá Boleslav. The seven-seat electric SUV uses the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, offers up to 91 kWh of battery capacity and brings bidirectional charging to the brand’s new flagship.
Skoda has started series production of the new Peaq electric SUV at its headquarters in Mladá Boleslav in the Czech Republic. The model is built on the same production line as the Enyaq and Elroq electric models as well as the combustion-engined Octavia. According to the carmaker, around 8,500 orders had already been placed by the end of July.
With the Peaq, Skoda is launching its largest electric vehicle to date. The seven-seat SUV expands the brand’s battery-electric line-up, which was also extended in 2026 with the smaller Epiq. For Skoda, the Peaq is therefore more than another SUV: it brings the brand’s highest battery capacity, longest stated range and new charging functions into one model.
What makes the Peaq important for Skoda’s EV line-up?
The Peaq is technically based on the Volkswagen Group’s Modular Electric Drive Matrix, or MEB, like the Enyaq and Elroq. The shared platform is intended to create synergies in production, but it also defines the vehicle’s electric architecture, battery integration and drive variants.
In the top version, the Peaq uses the largest traction battery ever fitted to a Skoda. The battery is also produced in Mladá Boleslav and offers a gross capacity of 91 kWh. According to the manufacturer, this enables a range of more than 640 kilometres. Alternatively, Skoda offers a 63 kWh version. Power outputs range from 150 to 220 kW, with rear-wheel and all-wheel drive available.
With a length of 4.87 metres, Skoda positions the Peaq as its new SUV flagship and as the brand’s first model in the large SUV segment. New equipment includes flush-integrated door handles, a panoramic roof with variable shading and bidirectional charging.
Why does the battery define the vehicle concept?
The 91 kWh battery is central to the Peaq’s positioning. It supports the long-distance claim of the seven-seat SUV and gives Skoda a technical basis for entering a larger and more demanding electric vehicle segment. In this class, range, packaging, charging capability and usable interior space have to work together.
That is why the Peaq is less interesting as a simple product launch than as an example of how large electric SUVs are evolving. A bigger battery alone is not enough. The vehicle also has to integrate drive options, thermal requirements, charging functions and interior flexibility within an architecture that can still be manufactured efficiently.
The option of bidirectional charging points in the same direction. The vehicle battery is no longer only a storage unit for driving energy. It can also become part of a wider energy system, for example by supporting vehicle-to-home or vehicle-to-grid functions when the surrounding infrastructure and market conditions allow it.
Where does production flexibility come in?
Although the Peaq brings new battery and charging technology to Skoda’s portfolio, it is built on a line that was originally designed for vehicles with combustion engines. Over the past few years, this line has gradually been converted for electric vehicle production. After the Enyaq, built in Mladá Boleslav since 2020, and the Elroq, which entered production in early 2025, the Peaq is now the third electric vehicle on the same line.
Together with the Octavia, four models are currently produced in one manufacturing network. Andreas Dick, Skoda’s Board Member for Production and Logistics, said that building four models, three of them fully electric, on a single line clearly showed the capability and versatility of the Mladá Boleslav team.
Additional capacity was created by partially moving production of the Octavia Combi to the Kvasiny plant. This allows Skoda to adapt production more flexibly to demand and create more room for electric models. In the first half of 2026, almost 23 per cent of vehicles produced in Skoda’s Czech plants were fully electric. This places the Peaq within a broader shift towards battery-electric vehicle production in Europe.
What had to change for Skoda’s largest model?
The start of Peaq production required technical adjustments. As the largest vehicle Skoda has produced since joining the Volkswagen Group, the model needed larger transport racks and a new manipulator for installing the third row of seats. The press shop, body shop and paint shop were also adapted.
These changes show that EV technology is not confined to the battery pack or the drive unit. A large electric SUV affects manufacturing equipment, handling systems, body structures and production logistics. In the Peaq, the technical story is therefore split between the MEB architecture, the locally produced high-capacity battery and the practical work needed to put a large electric flagship into series production.
