Conversational AI Technology
Polestar plans full rollout of Google Gemini across its line-up
Voice assistants in cars are shifting from basic command execution to intelligent, adaptive dialogue — bringing a more human tone to digital mobility.
Polestar
Polestar and Google have unveiled the new Gemini AI assistant inside the Polestar 5. The system promises more natural in-car conversations and will be introduced step by step across all Polestar models from 2026 onwards.
Polestar is preparing to bring Google’s new AI assistant,
Gemini, to every model in its range starting with the Polestar 2 and up. The Swedish
company plans to integrate the next generation of conversational in-car
technology through an upcoming Google software update, marking a major upgrade
to its digital user experience.
A first glimpse of what Gemini will offer was showcased
jointly by Polestar and Google at Slush, one of Europe’s most prominent
technology gatherings in Helsinki, Finland. Visitors were given a guided
demonstration inside the Polestar 5, illustrating how naturally the system can interact with drivers and passengers.
A new generation of conversational AI for the car
Gemini represents a significant step beyond the current
Google Assistant. By incorporating generative AI, it can handle open-ended
dialogue, understand context better and respond in a conversational tone rather
than relying solely on command-and-control inputs.
Instead of short, predefined phrases, drivers will be able
to speak more naturally, explore ideas aloud and ask follow-up questions — even
while on the move. The live conversational mode, activated with a simple “Hey
Google, let’s talk”, is designed to support brainstorming, learning and more
fluid interactions during a journey.
The system aims not only to carry out tasks but also to
engage in richer exchanges, effectively acting as an intelligent companion that
adapts to user behaviour. For Polestar, this marks a shift towards a more
intuitive digital cabin experience. The integration of Gemini signals a broader move within the
industry: voice assistants in cars are shifting from basic command execution to
intelligent, adaptive dialogue — bringing a more human tone to digital
mobility.
